KYN28 switchgear and ring main units are both medium-voltage products, but they are often used for different network roles. KYN28 metal-clad switchgear is commonly used in substations, plants, and distribution rooms where each feeder needs stronger configuration, protection, and operation visibility.

Ring main units are commonly used in compact distribution networks, transformer substations, residential or commercial distribution, and ring-network cable systems where space and simple operation are important.

Compare Configuration Depth

KYN28 panels can be configured for incoming, outgoing, metering, bus tie, PT, and protection functions. They are useful when the project needs a more complete medium-voltage switchgear lineup and clear feeder-level design.

RMUs are usually more compact and are often selected for load break switch, fuse combination, circuit breaker, and cable ring-network schemes. They can reduce footprint but must still match the project short-circuit level, rated current, operating mechanism, and cable arrangement.

• Use RMU for compact distribution and ring-network cable systems.
• Confirm rated voltage, rated current, short-circuit level, protection, and feeder scheme before ordering.

Procurement Documents Matter

For both KYN28 and RMU projects, buyers should not rely on product names alone. Ask for cabinet drawings, single-line diagrams, component lists, protection configuration, dimensions, test references, certificates, and packing plans.

If the buyer is comparing offers, make sure each supplier is quoting the same voltage, current, short-circuit rating, feeder scheme, breaker or switch type, and protection requirement. Otherwise, the lowest price may simply reflect a different configuration.
